Grönland ist Landschaft im Maßstab eines Kontinents: ein Inlandeis, das fast die ganze Insel bedeckt, und eine Küste, an der Gletscher Eisberge so groß wie Häuser ins Meer entlassen. In der Diskobucht steht im Juli die Sonne rund um die Uhr — der Tag hat kein Ende, nur Farben. Greenland is landscape on a continental scale: an ice sheet that covers almost the entire island, and a coast where glaciers calve icebergs the size of houses into the sea. In Disko Bay the July sun never sets — the day has no end, only colours.
Bei Mitternachtssonne verschiebt sich der Rhythmus: fotografiert wird nachts, wenn das Licht weich und tief steht. Graufilter und lange Belichtungen lassen das Wasser zwischen den Eisbergen zum Spiegel werden. Kälte und Wind sind ständige Begleiter — die Bilder entstehen langsam, im Takt des treibenden Eises. Under the midnight sun the rhythm shifts: I photograph at night, when the light hangs soft and low. Neutral-density filters and long exposures turn the water between the icebergs to mirror. Cold and wind are constant company — the images come slowly, paced by the drifting ice.
